The Development of TUSK, the musical, con't
In
preparation for the New York Musical Theatre Festival there
was a concert version of TUSK performed in the Albany-Saratoga
region to raise money to attend the Festival. The concert was
sold out and again very well received by the public.
In
September, of 2004 TUSK was presented at the first New York
Musical Theatre Festival, under an AEA Showcase Code for six
performances. TUSK was one of 18 new works, selected from over
250 submissions from around the world. There were 31 original
musicals in addition to 30 other types of media relating to
musical theatre, from film, to concerts readings and lectures.
Of the 31 original works TUSK was selected as “Best In
Festival” in the number 3 place for the top five new musical
of audience favorites. Again, from the experience of NYMF we
learned a great deal about the play and another re-write occurred
along with scene and song re-structuring and further character
development.
After NYMF a demo was recorded with that cast and a web sited
was developed, www.tuskthemusical.com.
